PmWiki | PmWiki / PmWiki

PmWiki | PmWiki / PmWiki: "PmWiki is a wiki-based system for collaborative creation and maintenance of websites."

This might be a solution to my personal wiki web project. I have looked into MediaWiki. Although privately configure Mediawiki for personal use is possible, it is not quite simple and strait forward to do. I hope PmWiki might provide me with a more DIY type wiki configuration without having to spend several hours learning how to use it.

Internet Scam!!!!!!!

Internet scam is everywhere. Although they may be a legal company, how they operate CANNOT be considered morally right!!!!!!!!!!! Look at this one for example. http://tinyurl.com/5np8sb

Tigerdirect is an online store which has been in business for a long time for computer products. I consider it as trustable. However, I might have to reconsider it from now on because how they choose to partner with other company. After you finish purchasing, it will lead you right to claim your reward (figure above).

If you carefully read their lengthy description, you will see that you will have to pay for membership fee next month. They give you first month free trial, and charge you the next month automatically. This makes their company legal. The marketing plan is absolute is considered EVIL in my opinion.

This did not bother me that much, but it does bother me now.
You can't trust the TRUSTe logo as it does not guarantee the company's moral level.
My friend Paul always says that all businesses are evil. Although I am not quite agree with him, I think it is true in this case. This is not the only company that does this kind of thing. There are a lot more out there. You just have to be careful, I guess. That is the only thing I can tell you. Buy.com does have this same thing, but may be a different company.
Reservation Rewards: "Contact Us
Your comments are important to us.
Please let us know what we can do to serve you better.

The only good thing about this company seem to be they allow us to cancel the membership online, which I did instantly after log-in. They are probably not totally evil. It is just business. No hard felling!

This is what they said on the customer service page.

US genomics leader bows out from institute : Nature News

US genomics leader bows out from institute : Nature News:

"Francis Collins, the geneticist who led the US National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in Bethesda, Maryland, through the completion of the Human Genome Project and the dawn of the personal genomics era, has announced that he will leave his post on 1 August."

So what will he do?

"[He] was leaving the NHGRI to explore posts “that would be very difficult to consider or discuss or pursue while continuing in my role as a federal employee”.

"Collins also says that he would like to write a book about personal genomics for the public."

Umm, sounds like a great way to promote that "personal genomics" idea.

Some people also said he will resume his ownership for a genomic company he put his shares on hold during his position at NHGRI. That's quite obvious, isn't it? Who would like to be a poor scientists if you have other choices?
