I am probably crazy, but this is what I did for the past few months.
I wanted to learn PHP, another computer language that can process html--a language for building web site. HP provided a free online lesson on their web site, and I joined their lesson. I didn't spend much time reading and practicing the exercises in their lessons. I just downloaded a bunch of the lessons and worked on my own pace. The class finished, but I am still on my first lesson.
So, the requirement for the class is that you have your own server, or hosting service that support PHP, and SQL database. They recommended a host called FastDomain. That was how my story started. So, I subscribe for the hosting service. At first, I think it was a pain in the neck. I tried to install Wordpress, and MediaWiki on my web site. However, I couldn't even setup a database in mySQL. Looking back, I was just stupid. Everything is just right there in front of me.
A few months passed by, I tried again last week. This time, I succeeded. I am probably getting more clever, or getting high! So now, I have Wordpress, phpBB3, Drupal, and Mediawiki running on my web site. I am still keep probing. I want to find something stable and easy to manage. Something I don't have to spend much time to learn how to.
My friend recommends me to go to http://www.opensourcecms.com (Thanks krub P'Tom). It is probably the best place to start. Their web site is actually looking good! They use PHP-Fusion.
Look how many people are accessing the website! A lot!!!
I think I am going proceed with PHP-Fusion! I also want to try the perl-based CMS, too. Hope it will help me to improve my Perl Programming Skill.
